IB Workshop 2024

On August 16, the introductory IB workshop took place for our students in 11th grade. Everyone participating in the IB, whether that means taking certain individual subjects or doing the entire diploma, attended, along with four of our 12th grade IB students who were there to help and give input by sharing their own experience. We started things off with some icebreakers organized by our IB Team consisting of Ms. Folprecht, Ms. Reitz, Ms. Borszik and our coordinator, Ms. Aradei-Odenkirchen. Through Bingo and more, there were a lot of opportunities for our students to get to know each other better and everyone instantly hit it off.

Afterwards, everyone was divided into groups and then the real activities started. One group started with learning more about the Extended Essay, which makes up a core part of the IB Diploma. With help from Ms. Borszik, they covered basic things like the main requirements and recommendations and how to find a good topic. Subsequently, two of our 12th grade students shared their experience and gave some tips on how to manage the process. Meanwhile, the rest of our students learned how to use ManageBac, the most important online portal for our students over the course of their IB, with Ms. Aradei-Odenkirchen.

After a quick coffee break, where our students could mingle some more and approach the 12th graders for advice, everyone learned more about the CAS-aspect of the IB Program from Ms. Reitz. We discussed possible opportunities for everyone to get involved and the importance of CAS in the IB was emphasized to our students.  The last agenda of the day consisted of switching the earlier groups to have everyone to learning about everything, including ManageBac and the Extended Essay. The workshop concluded at 16:00 and everyone went home a lot better prepared and more excited than they had come.
